In 1996, a friend took me to my first ever yoga class in NYC.

I had no idea what yoga was. All that I can really remember about that class was that I laughed long and hard throughout, because I found all the lying around on the floor doing noisy deep-breathing absolutely bonkers…and very, very funny. Actually – hilarious.

It turned out that the last laugh was on me.

In 2001, the yoga bug bit me hard. In 2007 I completed the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course 1 and in 2008 spent a month at Kripalu, doing their 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Brahmani and Jashoda. It was a life changing experience.

When I came back to the UK I then spent a year studying Pilates with Alan Herdman and gained my instructor’s qualification.  In my opinion, Pilates is an amazing tool for deepening one’s yoga practice and, importantly, keeping it safe.

I taught yoga for several years – both at organisations and privately.  The truth was, I found it a real challenge as teaching asanas isn’t in my comfort zone.

I now realise that teaching yoga was life’s way of keeping me out of trouble until I found my true vocation…you can see my professional website here and I do incorporate some yoga into what I’m doing. It’s not impossible there’ll be a return to teaching at some point. We’ll see.

However, yoga remains a passion.  I believe deeply in it as a means of keeping mentally, physically and spiritually healthy.  Or, to put it more simply, it just makes me feel great and glad to be alive.

This website is my love letter to yoga.

Namaste!
